It Started With a Pig Farm

We were about to buy an old pig farm in Österlen, Sweden. 350,000 euros for a piece of Swedish countryside. Everything was moving forward until the real estate agent was suddenly fired. Our gut feeling started saying no. Something wasn't right.

A Weekend in Stockholm

To clear our heads, we escaped to Stockholm for a weekend. Drinks, dinners, and trying to forget about the lost pig farm. That's when we saw it on TV - Alan & Amanda buying a 1 euro house in Italy.

I turned to Linda and said: "That's a very different story than buying a pig farm for 350,000 euros."

Down the Rabbit Hole

We started googling 1 euro houses. One thing led to another, and after a few more drinks, I booked flights to Sicily. We had never been there. Didn't know anything about it. But something felt right.

Finding Marie Wester

I contacted Marie Wester, a Swedish real estate broker working in Sicily. She told us which areas she operates in, and Linda started looking at houses online. Then she found it. THE house.

It wasn't a 1 euro house - it was 37,000 euros. But love is what love is.

The Trip That Changed Everything

We rebooked our flight from Catania to Palermo to be closer to the house. Met Marie Wester. Saw the property. Made the decision right there.

Six months later, we were homeowners in Sicily.
